Over 65 and Enjoying a Healthy Love Life? Enter Our Raffle for the Chance to Win Free Condoms
As an online casino, we know what it’s like to be a taboo subject. People automatically think of debt and addiction but that doesn’t have to be the case. As well as reminding people of our support for safe gambling, we wanted to discuss the importance of safe sex ahead of Valentine’s Day.
The 14th of February is known as the most romantic day of the year but there is a divide in attitudes towards this day. Some people see it as a time to show their partner they love them (in more ways than one) and others feel it is just a day that promotes consumerism. Boring!
We were curious to find out more about what our customers think about Valentine’s Day, so we surveyed 210 depositing EmuCasino customers on the subject with some intriguing results.
We asked ‘How do you expect this Valentine’s Day to be?’ and the majority of participants at 38% said they expected it to be ‘average’. This leads us to believe that EmuCasino customers are ambivalent towards the day and don’t see it as a big cause for celebration such as Easter or Christmas. We hope it is not for more disappointing reasons such as not having any faith that their partner would plan something for Valentine’s Day. If so, dump them!

Furthermore, the survey also asked ‘What is the most important quality you look for when choosing a significant partner?’ and 51% revealed that they are looking for someone with a sense of humour. For any singletons looking to meet the love of their life this Valentine’s Day, make sure you remember to take your funny bone with you.

The survey also revealed some attitudes about what they think their partner would like to receive as a gift for Valentine’s Day. Just 7% and 8% respectively stated that their partner would like to receive the go-to Valentine’s gifts of chocolates and jewellery. Shockingly, 22% of people who responded to the survey revealed that the gift they think their partner wants the most as a Valentine’s Day gift this year is sex. Is this because of a dry spell in the bedroom as of late? Or is this sadly because sex is the cheapest option for a gift? Either way, we hope this cheeky 22 % have a good time!

Sex can be uncomfortable to talk about in many different capacities (we all remember ‘the talk’ from our parents as kids) but there is one area in particular that is often overlooked – sex in later life. According to Age UK, more than half of men (54%) and almost a third of women (31%) over the age of 70 revealed they were still sexually active, with a third of these men and women having sex frequently.
Here at EmuCasino, we did some digging to see whether this age group are gambling with EmuCasino as much as they are enjoying a healthy sex life in their later years. Let’s dive in.

From our most recent data of both registering and depositing customers between October 2022 to October 2023, we can see that the number of customers depositing with EmuCasino in the 18-37 age group decreased by 11%. Interestingly, depositing customers in the age bracket of 38-57 actually increased by 11%. As of October 2023, 60% of depositing customers are in the 18-37 age bracket, 37% are 38-57 and 3% are 58-77.
One demographic is completely missing from our audience – 78-97-year-olds. Between October 2022 and October 2023, 0% within this age range neither registered nor deposited with us. From the information above on people in their golden years enjoying a healthy sex life, it is pretty clear that this demographic is far too occupied to consider online gambling! Despite breaking the stereotype of sex fizzling out in later life, research has found that there have been knock-on effects on sexual health in the older generation.
Mike Greenburg, General Manager at EmuCasino, says: “We found some shocking statistics that revealed that STIs among older people are on the rise and it seems to be global. According to research, STDs have surged among men aged 65 in England with a 20% increase in just two years and the US has seen rates of STIs among those aged 65 and above more than doubled between 2010 and 2020.”
Experts attribute the rise in STIs in this age group to several potential factors. Firstly, a lack of concern around pregnancy due to age may invoke a relaxed attitude toward using condoms. The availability of erectile dysfunction drugs also enables older men to be more sexually active, as does Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for women. For many of the older generation, sex education was not as evolved as we see it today, meaning the fundamentals of safe sex may not have been translated.

With the retirement age of approximately 65 here in New Zealand, trying your hand at online gambling could be an interesting and exciting hobby to pick up with your newly found free time if you do so responsibly. Ways to ensure gambling habits do not spiral out of control can include setting limits on how much money you are gambling with and how long you are gambling for.
