Bournemouth Goalkeeper Tests Positive For Coronavirus
Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has confirmed he was one of two individuals to test positive for coronavirus in the latest round of Premier League testing.
A total of 996 players and staff were tested at the 20 Premier League clubs, with Ramsdale and another unnamed individual at a different club testing positive.
This was the second round of testing, with a total of eight people now having returned positive results from the 1744 tests conducted.
Ramsdale had tested negative in the first round of tests last Monday and told the Sun that he was asymptomatic.
“It’s definitely a shock. I’ve not been in contact with anybody and I’ve now got it,” said the 22-year-old.
“When you know you haven’t had it, and you’ve just been following the rules and only gone to the shop, that was obviously scary at first.”
The first round of testing included positive results for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa and Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan.
The results from the third round of testing are set to be announced on Wednesday to the public.
The Premier League is expected to restart in the second half of June after being suspended on March 13 because of the pandemic.
Players returned to non-contact training last Tuesday and on Wednesday clubs will vote on whether to return to contact training.
