Chelsea Eye Havertz After Making Werner Move
Timo Werner is on the verge of joining Chelsea and may be joined by his international team-mate Kai Havertz.
The Athletic claims Chelsea have met Werner’s £53 million buy-out clause at Leipzig and could announce the deal before the end of the week.
Werner will reportedly sign a five-year deal at Chelsea and earn around £200,000-a-week. The Blues will be eager to seal the deal quickly, as Werner’s release clause reportedly expires on June 15.
Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Havertz is another name on Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s wish list.
The 20-year-old has been in sparkling form since the restart, with five goals in four games. Havertz flattered to deceive during the first-half of the season after a stunning 2018/19 campaign which saw him emerge as one of Europe’s most sought-after youngsters.
The German club have not received a formal offer for Havertz although it is believed that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have both held talks with the club.
Chelsea are said to have contacted Leverkusen over the player, although it is suggested the Germans could hold out for as much as £89 million, which may prove prohibitive.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to back Lampard in the transfer market and the club have already signed Hakim Ziyech for around £33 million from Ajax.
Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell is also a prime summer target as Lampard looks to replenish his squad after the club’s recent transfer ban.
