Liverpool One Step Away From Title

Liverpool are on the verge of winning their first title in 30 years after hammering Crystal Palace 4-0 at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead with a stunning free-kick and Mohamed Salah doubled the advantage when comfortably dispatching past Wayne Hennessey before the break.

Fabinho made it 3-0 on 55 minutes with a superb long-range strike, and Sadio Mane slotted into the bottom corner after being put through by Salah as Palace offered little threat at Anfield.

The Reds could seal the title on Thursday if Manchester City fail to win at Chelsea. Otherwise they will have the chance to do it against City themselves next Thursday at the Etihad Stadium.

Klopp will be watching events at Stamford Bridge with interest as he looks to seal the third league triumph of his managerial career after the two Bundesliga titles he won in his time at Borussia Dortmund.

“Tonight was a big step, that’s clear,” Klopp told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We’ve all still got to play seven games, if we play like this it’s really not nice to play against us.

“I have to watch the game tomorrow because we play them one week later. That’s being professional and doing my job.”

Klopp was delighted with his side’s display after their lacklustre showing in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Everton.

“It was a brilliant game,” added Klopp. “If you are involved in this, if you are as close as I am to these boys, then you can’t be happier than I am.

“The way they played, the passion we showed was so exceptional, there were moments that I couldn’t believe it. Especially after being 4-0 up and still showing it.

“I’m so happy that we showed that we do it for the people even when they’re not really here. In this moment I am in a really good mood.”
